A shooting incident in south-east London has resulted in one fatality and injuries to two individuals. According to the Metropolitan Police, officers responded to calls regarding a shooting near Wells Park Road, Sydenham, shortly after 10:00 GMT on Sunday. Upon arrival, they discovered a man who had sustained injuries and subsequently died at the location. A woman found with gunshot wounds to her legs was transported to a hospital. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening. The police force also stated that a third individual sought medical attention at a hospital for what were suspected to be gunshot injuries; however, their current condition remains undisclosed. Residents in the vicinity have reported that a “very busy” party was taking place near the shooting site, continuing into the morning hours. Sabrina Charles, a local resident, stated that she was awakened in the early hours of Sunday by sounds emanating from flats in Hensford Gardens. She commented, “I didn’t hear the music until after 11pm, and it went on until around 5am,” further noting that the event was still active at 07:00 when she took her dog for a walk. An additional resident, residing within the cordoned-off area and choosing to remain anonymous, reported hearing screaming and shouting around 10:00 before boarding a bus. As of now, no arrests have been made, and police are working to ascertain the victim’s identity and notify his family. Cdr Peter Stevens remarked: “I know people will be shocked by this senseless act of violence, all the more so on a Sunday morning in a residential area.” He continued: “I share their concerns and can assure the local community that the Met’s response, alongside our partners, has been rapid.” He further stated: “We are determined to safeguard the community, to get to the bottom of what happened here and bring those responsible to justice.” Cdr Stevens also mentioned that extra officers would be patrolling the vicinity, alongside forensic specialists present at the site. The eastern section of Wells Park Road and a residential building in Hensford Gardens have been cordoned off, with these restrictions anticipated to stay “for some time.”
