A waste management firm is set to be prosecuted concerning the death of an employee who was involved in a collision with a refuse vehicle in Bradford. This individual passed away after the event occurred at the Biffa Transfer Station, located on Peace Street, on August 10, 2023. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has verified that legal proceedings have commenced, alleging that the company violated several health and safety regulations. A spokesperson representing Biffa Waste Services issued a statement, saying: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the deceased. We continue to cooperate with the HSE and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.” An HSE spokesperson stated: “HSE has commenced a prosecution against Biffa Waste Services Limited following an investigation into the death of a worker at its transfer station in Bradford.” The company faces accusations of violating Regulations 3(1)(a), 3(1)(b), and 5(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
