An official dispersal order has been implemented following an incident in Leicester city centre. Law enforcement officials reported that approximately 100 individuals convened at the Clock Tower in East Gates on Friday at 15:30 GMT, where they were involved in a “disturbance, shouting and throwing things at officers”. This section 34 order currently encompasses most of the city centre and is scheduled to conclude at 04:00 GMT on Saturday. According to police, four individuals were apprehended, comprising two 13-year-olds, a 14-year-old, and a 57-year-old man. Authorities specified that a 13-year-old boy was taken into custody on suspicion of breach of the peace, a 13-year-old girl on suspicion of common assault, and a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. A 57-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. The police force further stated that the teenagers were initially held in connection with their alleged offences before being transported home. They are expected to return for interviews at a subsequent time. The 57-year-old individual continues to be held in police custody. The designated dispersal zone encompasses the inner ring road A459, which includes the following thoroughfares: Tigers Way, Welford Road, Infirmary Road, Oxford Street, Vaughan Way, Burleys Way, St. Matthews Way, St. Georges Way, and Waterloo Way. Sgt Steph Burnham of Leicestershire Police commented, “I appreciate some of this behaviour may have gotten out of hand with such a large group of people.” She further explained that the dispersal order establishes it as an offence to stay within its boundaries if instructed to depart by an officer. Non-compliance with a request to leave will result in a notice being issued, and refusal to adhere to the conditions prohibiting return will lead to arrest.
