National Highways has advised drivers on the M61 in Greater Manchester to anticipate substantial delays due to a collision. The agency reported that the motorway segment between Junctions 4 and 2 (M60/ A666) southbound, close to Bolton, had been shut, with alternative routes established and emergency personnel present. Although the road has since reopened, National Highways stated on X that residual delays of “at least an hour” persist after the earlier “multi vehicle collision.” A spokesperson further commented: “There is a large amount of fuel/oil and debris across the carriageway.” They also advised: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. “And added: “Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”Listen to the best of BBC Radio Manchester on Sounds and follow BBC Manchester on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
