Ellyse Perry recorded her third half-century in four matches, leading the Sydney Sixers to a six-run victory against the Hobart Hurricanes in the Women’s Big Bash. Perry’s innings of 86 runs from 62 deliveries, featuring 11 fours and two sixes, concluded with her dismissal on the final ball of the innings, contributing to the Sixers’ total of 155-7. The 34-year-old currently holds the position of the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 252 runs, ahead of her Australia team-mate Beth Mooney, who has 144 runs. Perry received valuable support from England’s Hollie Armitage, who scored 30 runs off 25 balls. The Hurricanes commenced their chase strongly but experienced a significant loss when England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge was dismissed for 30 runs on the first delivery after the powerplay. The combined efforts of the top-ranked T20 bowler Sophie Ecclestone (2-22) and 15-year-old Caoimhe Bray (2-13) effectively limited the Hurricanes’ scoring during the middle overs. The Hurricanes required 20 runs from the last over and managed to score 13 runs off Ash Gardner, ultimately falling short and suffering their third defeat in their initial five games. This win marks the Sixers’ second in four matches, placing them on four points alongside six other teams. The Sixers are scheduled to return to action on Thursday night (00:00 GMT, Friday) against the Melbourne Stars, while the Hurricanes will host the Perth Scorchers on Saturday (23:10 GMT).
