Supporters advocating for the reconstruction of the United Kingdom’s most distinctive pub have produced a calendar showcasing archival photographs of the establishment and its patrons. The Crooked House pub, an 18th-century structure located in Himley, close to Dudley, experienced an arson attack, followed by its demolition within 48 hours, an event that generated widespread consternation throughout the nation. The proprietors of the pub have received an order for its reconstruction; however, they have filed an appeal, and an official inquiry is scheduled for the spring. The Save the Crooked House campaign group’s members anticipate that the calendar will contribute to public awareness regarding the pub’s significance to the local heritage. Ian Sandall, a campaigner, informed BBC Radio WM that the calendar’s purpose is to narrate the history of the pub and the individuals who were employed there and frequented it. “It’s heritage, it’s culture and it’s part of our history,” he stated. “We’ve tried to vary the photos in there but they’re all of people who’ve got memories [of the pub]. People can look at these photos and reminisce throughout the year.” A significant number of the images included in the calendar, which is being sold to generate funds for the campaign, were submitted to the group. Mr. Sandall mentioned that certain photographs featured had not previously been viewed by the public, with one image originating from nearly a century ago. In addition to the calendar, Christmas cards depicting the pub have also been produced for the second consecutive year. Mr. Sandall expressed that these items would assist in maintaining the pub’s prominence in public consciousness during the period awaiting the inquiry. “The ultimate aim is to get the pub rebuilt in its former glory so we can all go back and be stunned and amazed by the crookedness of it,” he commented.
