Actor and former professional footballer Vinnie Jones has expressed a wish that he had been cast in Peaky Blinders. During an appearance on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, Jones stated, “Peaky Blinders, obviously, I wish I would have done that, because I thought I was made for that. Some things you think you’re made for.” Meanwhile, Cillian Murphy, a prominent Hollywood actor, was recently observed filming the forthcoming Peaky Blinders movie, appearing in his characteristic cap and coat on location in north Wales. Since his initial acting role in Guy Ritchie’s crime comedy Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Jones has established a reputation as a quintessential “hardman” in cinema. Currently, he is performing in the stage adaptation of Only Fools and Horses, portraying Danny Driscoll, the sitcom’s “hardman” character and one of the well-known Driscoll Brothers. The former midfielder for Chelsea, Leeds, and Wimbledon commented on his current role, saying, “I grew up with Only Fools And Horses, and when I was playing football, and you done all the magazines, it was like every footballer’s favourite TV show! ‘What is it?’ ‘Only Fools And Horses. And here we are, you know, a few decades on, and I get asked to do it, and it’s, you know, it’s an honour. It is an absolute honour to do it.” The cast of Only Fools and Horses: The Musical features Sam Lupton as Del Boy, Tom Major as Rodney, and Paul Whitehouse as Grandad. Jones, who previously captained the Wales national football team, shared his perspective: “I mean, you know, my mates sort of say, ‘Why? What are you doing? Why?’ And you push the envelope, don’t you? And I think it makes you more of a worldly person. Do you know what I mean?” Concurrently, the forthcoming Peaky Blinders film remains in production throughout the UK, with several established characters from the series slated to reappear. Packy Lee, portraying Johnny Dogs, has been seen on set with Murphy, and Stephen Graham is reprising his role as Hayden Stagg, Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne, Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong, and Ian Peck as Curly. New additions to the cast include Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, and Jay Lycurgo; however, Vinnie Jones is not among them. Tom Harper is directing the Peaky Blinders movie, working from a script penned by the series’ creator, Steven Knight, who is also serving as a producer alongside Patrick Holland, Cillian Murphy, and Guy Heeley. Peaky Blinders first premiered as a television series in 2013, with all episodes accessible on BBC iPlayer. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
