Julian Lennon, the son of Beatles star John Lennon, has issued a reminder about the dangers of skin cancer following his own diagnosis with the disease. The Liverpool-born musician urged individuals to get checked after undergoing an operation to remove a melanoma, which is considered the most dangerous form of skin cancer. He stated that he was advised to have the surgery after consulting his dermatologist. The 61-year-old expressed gratitude to his doctor for “saving his life” but mentioned that he was still awaiting the results of a biopsy for additional information. Writing on X, he said: “The operation was a success, but we have yet to have the results of the biopsy, which we may not receive before Christmas.” Lennon, who resides in Los Angeles, was in New York when he discovered he needed to return for the surgical procedure. He reported that his dermatologist identified signs of cancer on his shoulder and forearm, with one being a melanoma, thus requiring an operation. The musician indicated that this meant he had to travel to Los Angeles for treatment “instead of going home to put my Christmas tree up and happily finish the year off, relaxing at home.” Receiving good news “would be the best Christmas present ever,” the musician added. “I just want to say, this is also a timely reminder to all, to please get yourself checked out by your doctor.” He continued: “I love life and I want to live for a very long time and this is one way, and a choice, that could determine your future.” Lennon’s mother passed away in 2015 following a cancer diagnosis. His father was fatally shot in 1980. Information regarding BBC Radio Merseyside content is available on Sounds, and updates from BBC Merseyside can be followed on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
