The Jersey Police force is seeking public assistance regarding an event where a male individual assaulted a police officer by spitting. This individual, identified by descriptions including a black jacket, a blue hooded top, and operating a push or e-scooter, requested the officer to lower their vehicle window before spitting at them. The occurrence took place approximately at 16:55 GMT on Wednesday, December 11. At the time, the officer was operating a clearly marked patrol car on St Aubin’s Road, in the vicinity of the Pet Cabin, proceeding in the direction of Cheapside. Chief Officer Robin Smith stated that the police department upholds a “strict zero-tolerance policy towards any assaults on our staff.” The force also released body-worn camera footage depicting an individual they wish to interview concerning the event. Smith commented: “I’m sure all islanders will share my disgust that one of our patrolling officers should stop her police car to offer assistance only to be spat on.” He further added: “The rise in spitting incidents against our officers is deeply concerning – such acts are not only highly disrespectful but also pose significant health risks.” Authorities urged anyone who identifies the man to make contact to assist their inquiry, and also indicated that they would encourage the individual involved to present himself. The force additionally noted that such spitting incidents have a personal impact on officers, necessitating health assessments in Accident and Emergency for potential infectious diseases, followed by subsequent appointments.
