The latest group of artists selected to develop projects for Bradford’s UK City of Culture programme in 2025 has been announced. Bradford 2025 is offering financial support to enable these creatives to present their work, following the initial round in the summer where 10 projects received Artist Awards. This second phase of awards will support various artists, including singers, musicians, and a collective dedicated to working with individuals with learning disabilities. Aamta-Tul Waheed, an interdisciplinary artist from Wibsey, expressed that being chosen among the newest awardees was “monumental”. She stated: “My work uses arts, culture and storytelling to redefine and reclaim the narrative of South Asian diaspora communities in the UK, particularly for women.” She added, “Much of my work is rooted in challenging entrenched cultural norms and social structures.” The 30-year-old artist commented: “Being chosen among so many gifted artists is truly humbling and energising.” She further expressed, “I just hope that this year will really represent what the communities of Bradford have been all along.” Shanaz Gulzar, the creative director of Bradford 2025, remarked: “We are proud to support the exceptional artists that live in our district and spotlight their incredible talent across the year of culture.” She continued, “The array of applications we’ve received for both of these rounds has been inspiring and we’re excited to show the world what Bradford has to offer.” The artists and organizations selected for the second round of Artist Awards have been identified.
