A planning application has been submitted to Leicester City Council outlining proposals to reactivate a former care facility in Leicester. Brookside Court, which ceased operations in 2016, has reportedly “suffered significant vandalism and break-ins” since its closure. The vacant premises in Evington continues to be a frequent target, leading to police being “regularly” summoned to the location. Omnia, a care provider that acquired the property in late 2022, intends to modify the communal areas of the Cademan Close building. The plan is to convert it into 18 self-contained flats designed for residents requiring high dependency care. These accommodations would cater to individuals with “high level” needs who require private living spaces due to their inability to share common areas with others. Additionally, a section of the premises is designated for respite care services, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. The project anticipates the employment of between 60 and 70 full-time personnel at the facility. The city council is expected to render a decision on the application at an unspecified future time.
