A prominent UK streamer has stated that the path to establishing an online presence is becoming more challenging for new entrants. Morgan Burtwistle, recognized by his online alias Angry Ginge, has amassed millions of followers since creating his account in 2020, primarily known for his gameplay of the football title EA FC. He informed BBC Newsbeat that the online content creation sector is becoming increasingly “saturated” due to its perception as a lucrative career path. “More people are trying to do it. Growing up, people now want to be footballers or content creators,” he commented. Leading streamers currently have the potential to generate substantial income from their channels via advertising, brand partnerships, and subscriber fees. However, Morgan advises beginning modestly and pursuing streaming solely if it is an activity one genuinely enjoys. “Find a job, save up, buy the cheapest equipment out there – PC, microphone – and then be consistent and keep going no matter what people say.” “Do it as a hobby more than a job, and then hopefully you can grow from there.” BBC Newsbeat interviewed Morgan at Red Bull’s UK headquarters in Milton Keynes, where he revealed his new role as a player for the company’s esports team. The brand’s roster includes numerous well-known personalities, such as F1 driver Max Verstappen, Olympic gold medalist climber Toby Roberts, and England cricketer Ben Stokes. For prominent streamers or public figures, the selection of brand partnerships can elicit significant responses from their fan base. Red Bull has specifically faced criticism regarding its engagement in football, a situation recently encountered by former Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp following his acceptance of a position with the firm. Morgan stated he anticipates a positive reception from his audience regarding this announcement. “Nothing will ever change me,” he affirmed, further stating that he does not foresee the agreement impacting the nature of his content. Morgan is accustomed to blending the realms of online and real-world football. He oversees Winton Wanderers Yanited FC, an under-18 grassroots club that he is promoting globally through his YouTube channel. Given his reputation for being boisterous and enthusiastic during his streams, the question arises: what management approach does Angryginge apply on the football pitch? “An aggressive one,” he replied. “No messing about, simple balls and hopefully just put the ball in the back of the net”. Furthermore, he is slated to manage one of the 12 teams participating in the forthcoming Baller League. The UK version of the six-a-side competition will be organized by Angry Ginge’s online associate KSI, and will include prominent streamers alongside renowned football personalities. Morgan stated that his team would exhibit “heart, soul, blood and thunder.” “We’re gonna win,” he declared, then humorously added: “If we don’t there’s clear bias and robbery going on”. Some of Morgan’s followers have speculated about the possibility of streamers such as himself transitioning to managing Premier League teams. “It’s never going to happen,” he asserted. “If that happens I’m living in a simulation”.
