A man’s death has been confirmed following an incident where a vehicle entered the water in a Devon town, according to police reports. Devon and Cornwall Police stated they received a call at 08:40 GMT on Sunday concerning a car that had gone into the water in Dartmouth, directly across from the lifeboat centre. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency confirmed that emergency services, including the ambulance service, fire department, RNLI, and the HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, were all summoned to the site. The police force verified that a man in his 80s was declared deceased at the location, after police divers recovered his body and the vehicle from the river. Law enforcement indicated that a file has been submitted to the coroner, and the fatality is not currently considered suspicious. A police spokesperson stated: “The embankment area was closed, and cordons was put in place for much of the day. These have since been lifted.” The police extended thanks to the public for their cooperation during the occurrence.
