The family of an East Yorkshire man, James Hitchcock, 32, who passed away following an alleged assault at York railway station, has described him as “one in a million”. Mr. Hitchcock, from Cottingham, East Yorkshire, succumbed to his injuries in hospital three days subsequent to the event on December 15. Mckenzie Dicicco, a 22-year-old resident of Belgravia Gardens, Middlesbrough, has been charged with murder and has made a court appearance. In their tribute, Mr. Hitchcock’s family stated: “Our hearts are broken.” They further expressed: “We still cannot comprehend the events that have taken place.” The family characterized James as “one in a million, the life and soul of the party and did not deserve to be taken from us so soon and under such cruel circumstances.” They concluded by saying: “His memory will live on in the life of his beautiful baby boy.” The alleged attack occurred while the married father-of-one, who was a footballer for Barton Town FC, was enjoying a night out in York. Det Ch Insp Sam Painter of the British Transport Police commented: “Our specialist officers are continuing to support James’s family and friends following this tragic and horrific incident.” Mckenzie Dicicco, 22, residing at Belgravia Gardens, Middlesbrough, appeared before Leeds Crown Court on Friday, facing charges of murder and affray. He has been held in custody until his subsequent court appearance scheduled for February 5.
