Ross County manager Don Cowie has indicated that securing a victory against St Mirren this Saturday could profoundly influence the club’s push to ascend the tightly contested Premiership standings. Currently occupying tenth place, County is merely two points above the league’s lowest position and seeks to halt a sequence of three consecutive losses. Nevertheless, a return to winning form at Dingwall would position the Staggies within three points of the Paisley team, which holds sixth place. Cowie stated, “You can see the league table, you can see where we are in terms of not winning in the last three, but at the same time we move on from that and you have got to be positive and look forward.” He added, “A victory on Saturday changes the league table, it can have a big impact and a huge effect in terms of how tight it is and that is what we will be striving for.” Despite County being closely positioned to several teams higher in the league, Cowie addressed inquiries regarding the resilience and determination his players must exhibit to distance themselves from the threat of relegation. He commented, “I think those are the qualities you have to have when you play for Ross County, that is the challenge of the competitiveness of this league.” Cowie further explained, “We understand the challenges of what we are coming up against, both the stature of teams, the finances of other teams, so we have to roll our sleeves up, show character and be together.”
