A principal road leading into a city is now expected to be closed for a longer duration than initially planned, owing to “a series of unexpected issues”. Cumberland Council has confirmed that Dalston Road, a significant entry point into Carlisle, will remain shut until February. This extension is required as construction continues on the city’s Southern Link Road, which aims to link Junction 42 of the M6 with the A595. The closure of this thoroughfare was originally slated for the period between March and June, but its start date was later deferred to 17 June. The council indicated that the problems encountered were outside its influence and asserted that it is doing everything possible to resolve them. A spokesperson for the council stated: “We have looked at providing an alternative route along the new section of road adjacent to Peter Lane, but this is not possible due to the logistical requirements of the Caldew Crossing Bridge.”
