An inquiry by law enforcement has commenced following reports that several hundred individuals reportedly launched fireworks at one another and at emergency personnel outside a student residence in Nottingham. Authorities responded to a call at approximately 22:20 GMT on Tuesday on Midland Way, Radford, where fireworks were also reported to have been discharged towards nearby structures and stationary vehicles. According to Nottinghamshire Police, approximately 300 individuals participated in the disturbance, with the crowd also directing fireworks at fire engines. These engines had been dispatched to address a fire involving two large bins located outside the premises at 00:23 on Wednesday. The police force stated that no significant injuries or property damage were reported, and no arrests have been made thus far. The Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service reported attending a separate incident at the identical location shortly after 01:00 on Wednesday. This was due to a blaze originating in a flat’s kitchen, caused by a firework being “fired through the window.” Law enforcement officials indicated that “multiple police units” were dispatched, and fireworks were directed at both officers and other responding emergency service personnel. Police confirmed that the gatherings on Midland Way were dispersed, but “further disorder” subsequently occurred in the city centre, where fireworks were again launched at officers. Authorities once more dispersed the crowds, and no serious injuries were sustained during this intervention. Chief Inspector Mike Ebbins stated: “I want to reassure the community that a thorough investigation is under way, and we are pursuing several lines of inquiry that will ensure that those responsible are tracked down, caught and dealt with.” He added: “We won’t tolerate such appalling behaviour which puts people at risk of harm, including our officers and fellow blue light colleagues who were in attendance trying to keep people safe, and we’ll seek to prosecute anyone involved.” Ebbins also mentioned: “There will be increased patrols in the affected areas tonight, providing reassurance for the public, as we continue with our investigation.” The police force is now requesting that any witnesses with relevant information come forward.
