A Dublin-headquartered energy firm has acquired the Firmus gas supply operations in Northern Ireland. The Yuno Energy group completed the purchase for an undisclosed sum, taking over a business that serves 113,000 customers across Northern Ireland. Customers are not required to take any action following this change in ownership. Firmus will maintain its ownership and operation of the Ten Towns gas network in Northern Ireland. Yuno Energy has been active as a gas and electricity provider in the Republic of Ireland since 2023. The company was established by energy entrepreneur Cathal Fay, who also founded PrepayPower, a prepay utilities company in the Republic. Niall Martindale, the chief executive of Firmus energy distribution, commented: “The supply business is now ready to stand alone, and we are confident it will go from strength to strength under the new ownership of Yuno Group.“We will continue to own and operate the networks business, where our focus will be the continued growth of connections to our gas network, and the injection of renewable gases such as biomethane.” The Firmus distribution business was divested by Equitix, a London-based infrastructure investor.
