The organizers of the yearly Boardmasters music festival in Newquay have announced an enhancement of security protocols for its 2025 edition. According to a Facebook post from Boardmasters, the festival plans to augment its security personnel by 20% for “crowd and behaviour management positions” for the event scheduled from August 6-10. Further security upgrades include the addition of 25 entry lanes, which organizers state will facilitate more thorough inspections of attendees’ possessions. There will also be a 25% increase in watchtowers, staffed around the clock, and a 50% rise in high-visibility security patrols. These changes follow an incident during the 2024 Boardmasters event in August, specifically on its Friday night, when a crowd surge resulted in seven individuals being hospitalized with injuries. Boardmasters indicated in its Facebook communication that further details regarding modifications for the upcoming year’s event would be disseminated in the coming days and weeks. Additionally, organizers confirmed the provision of 50 buses for the park and ride service and a relocation of the drop-off area to be nearer the festival gates. The Facebook post also outlined alterations to camping facilities for the next year’s event, notably introducing a “chilled zone” with a noise curfew set at 23:00 BST. The roster of artists for the 2025 festival has not yet been disclosed. Readers can follow BBC Cornwall on X, Facebook, and Instagram. Story ideas may be sent to spotlight@bbc.co.uk.
