A significant relief road, colloquially referred to as “the road to nowhere,” is projected for completion next year, according to the local authority. Phil Larratt, the cabinet member for highways and transport at West Northamptonshire Council, stated that the council is “making significant strides” toward finalizing the Sandy Lane relief road, situated near Northampton. The existing thoroughfare has been inaccessible for over a year, leading to grievances from residents. Larratt conveyed the council’s anticipation that the “full route will be operational by spring 2025, much earlier than initially planned.” Construction on the Sandy Lane relief road commenced more than 15 years ago before being suspended. Work recommenced last year, during which a segment of the existing Sandy Lane, located between Kislingbury and Duston, was closed. A section of this road was reopened to vehicular traffic this summer. The council has indicated it is “very close” to confirming an accelerated schedule for completing the remaining portion of the route to the A4500 junction. Subject to the selection of a developer, work is anticipated to commence in the coming weeks. For news updates concerning Northamptonshire, please refer to BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
