Three new recycling lorries, named Binny McBin Face, Ollie Watbins, and Chitty Chitty Bin Bin, are preparing to commence operations after a public competition held by a Devon council. Teignbridge District Council reported receiving around 300 entries from residents for the contest to name its 21 new vehicles, which was promoted on its social media channels. The council stated that the competition winners visited the recycling depot in Newton Abbot on Saturday, where they were awarded certificates. Councillor Peter Williams, executive member for recycling, household waste & environmental health, remarked that the chosen names impart a “distinct identity” to the new fleet. “We had a great response to the competition to name our new fleet of vehicles,” he said, adding, “There were so many fun and creative names, from children and adults across Teignbridge, it was hard for the panel to decide.” The council confirmed that the new fleet was supplied under its contract with Specialist Fleet Services and manufactured by Romaquip.
