Emergency services were summoned to a segment of the A46 at Screveton, near Bingham, at approximately 22:30 GMT on Saturday, following a crash that involved two cars and a van. Sithembile Kona, 49, a resident of Mapperley in Nottingham, was declared deceased at the scene, according to Nottinghamshire Police. In a statement issued on Friday, her family characterized her as a “beloved mother, daughter, sister and friend”. The statement conveyed: “She is survived by her son, Kudakwashe, and mother in Zimbabwe.” It further noted: “Her sudden passing is a devastating loss to her family and friends in the UK, Zimbabwe, and around the world.” The family’s message concluded with: “Our darling Sithembile, thank you for everything you have done for us. Forever in our hearts.” Subsequent to the collision, the southbound side of the dual carriageway remained closed until approximately 15:00 on Sunday. Sarah Butler, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, commented: “Our thoughts remain with Sithembile’s family and officers will continue to help them during this very difficult time.” She appealed: “I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to get in touch.” Individuals can follow BBC Nottingham on Facebook, X, or Instagram for updates.
