Tributes have been issued by Chelsea and Fulham following the passing of their former player, John Dempsey, at 78 years old. The erstwhile defender played 171 matches for Fulham during the 1960s, subsequently joining Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where he achieved trophy success from 1969 to 1978. A statement from Fulham conveyed: “Everyone at the club sends their condolences and thoughts to his wife Trish, and his wider family and friends.” Chelsea Football Club also stated: “It is with tremendous sadness that Chelsea Football Club announces the passing of our former FA Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup winner John Dempsey.” The club further added: “We are sending our heartfelt condolences to all of John’s family and friends at this difficult time.” Sandi Toksvig is accompanied by Gyles Brandreth, Lulu, Emmanuel Sonubi, and Alan Davies.
