Opta’s Patric Ridge Discusses Everton’s Offensive Shortcomings

Patric Ridge, Deputy Editor at Opta, appeared on BBC Radio Merseyside to analyze the 0-0 draw against West Ham. Ridge stated, “At the minute I am not sure that there is enough tactical nous and flair to get the best out of the attackers.” He further commented, “On Saturday, there were some situations where the team got into good positions and couldn’t find the final pass or that shot off at the right time and that is on the players.” At London Stadium, Sean Dyche’s team registered 18 attempts on goal, with four of these striking the target, yet they failed to find the net. Ridge subsequently remarked, “In attack there is so much more to give and that is where I want to see the improvement.” He concluded, “However long Dyche is here, whether he is going to get a new contract or not, it is on him now to really try and find that little bit extra and prove he can do it.” Everton has managed to score only 10 goals in their initial ten matches of the season. This places them ahead of only Manchester United (nine), Crystal Palace (eight), and Southampton (seven) in terms of goals scored.
