An indoor skate park has commenced operations in West Sussex, featuring “Silver Surfer” sessions specifically designed for older skaters. Named The Skate Farm, this facility is situated within the Bridge Road Industrial Estate in Haywards Heath. It is characterized as an organic, concrete-free skate park, intended to accommodate individuals across all levels of skating proficiency. According to founder Tom Johnston, the most senior participant in his sessions for those aged over 35 is 65 years old. “I’ve built the park especially for anybody that wants to learn because I believe everybody is still a beginner, even when you’re in your 50s or whatever,” he stated. He added, “All the ramps are accommodating for everybody.” The facility welcomes individuals of all skill levels, permitting the use of skateboards, scooters, inclines, and quad skates. Mr Johnston further commented, “It’s a little bit small for BMX’s. But we can accommodate for most wheels.” He elaborated, “Inspired by the metaphor of a farm, where crops are nurtured and grown, we aspire to create a skatepark that serves as a fertile ground for sowing the seeds of positivity among individuals of all backgrounds.” Additionally, the skate park is wheelchair-friendly, designed to accommodate WMX users. Mr Johnston concluded by stating: “Our primary goal is to provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment that encourages users to push their limits, explore their passions, and develop their skills.”
