Chris Packham, known as the presenter of Springwatch, is holding a solo art exhibition in Kent, featuring his photographs of penguins. Titled “The Christmas Penguins,” the collection comprises original images of these birds, reflecting the naturalist’s enduring passion for them. The photographs capture chinstrap, adelie, and king penguins, alongside other species, in their Antarctic habitat. The exhibition will be hosted at the Taylor-Jones & Son gallery in Deal and is scheduled to run until 5 January. Regarding the birds, Packham stated: “They are so very photogenic. Add in their harsh, exotic and beautiful environment and you have backdrops that are almost out of this world.” Packham, a resident of the New Forest, Hampshire, is scheduled to sign prints at the gallery on Sunday, 24 November, between 11:30 and 12:30 GMT. Richard Taylor-Jones, the gallery director, commented on the exhibition, saying: “Packham has produced a show that is both fun and engaging, showing penguins to be the charismatic creatures they are, yet also vulnerable in an increasingly fragile landscape.” He further added, “Photography as a medium has become more and more collectable in the art world, particularly with well known names and I have no doubt this show is going to be incredibly popular – we are very excited to be hosting it.” For updates, follow BBC Kent on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
