A foodbank located in Surrey has indicated it has had to utilize its reserve funds to satisfy the local requirement for food parcels. The North Guildford Foodbank, which serves Guildford and its neighboring villages, reported that merely 40% of its food parcels originate from donations, necessitating the charity to purchase the remaining 60%. The charity communicated to its consistent financial contributors via email, stating: “This year we have seen demand for food parcels increase by nearly 30% and have had to spend from our reserves to keep providing clients with the same level of service.” A spokesperson for the organization informed the BBC that in December, they anticipate having to “support more than twice the number of clients we see in an average month”. Although the charity has not previously launched a Christmas appeal, it forecasts a demand for approximately 400 food parcels this December. The spokesperson further commented: “We are often overwhelmed with the acts of kindness of those who support us, there are so many people who care.” More than 100 volunteers contribute to the charity’s operations, undertaking tasks such as sorting donated food, assembling parcels, engaging with clients, and assisting individuals in accessing additional support if required. Additionally, the charity incorporates a shopping voucher with each food parcel distributed in December, an initiative described by the organization as one that “gives back some autonomy” to individuals facing hardship. Assistance with fuel payments is also offered. Post navigation Abandoned Greenhouses Revitalized for Local Food Production Norwich Social Enterprise Launches Winter Appeal to Address Food Poverty
