East Devon District Council has announced that planning approval has been secured for a new country park in Devon, located near Exeter Airport. Clyst Meadows Country Park, designated as a public greenspace at Broadclyst Station, is projected to cover 25 acres (10 hectares) and will feature various walking paths. A council spokesperson indicated that the park will include a secure area for dogs to roam freely and could serve as an outdoor educational setting for local schools. Councillor Geoff Jung stated: “Clyst Meadows will be hugely valuable to local people, offering them the opportunity to spend time in nature, which will have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing.” He further added: “We look forward to welcoming everyone to this exciting new space where they can enjoy nature and take part in community activities.” The park will offer parking for 16 cars, including disabled spaces, as well as cycle parking. The council also noted that Clyst Meadows is expected to enhance the local ecosystem through the introduction of hedgerows and mature trees. Councillor Henry Massey commented: “It will provide a beautiful place for residents to connect with nature, while promoting sustainability and biodiversity.” Ben Morgan-Brown, East Devon District Council’s nature reserves ranger, added: “I’m really looking forward to this wonderful site opening to the public. “Balancing the needs of nature and people is an essential part of our work in the Countryside Team.”” For updates, follow BBC Devon on X, Facebook, and Instagram.
