A hospital patient who had been reported missing has died following a bicycle collision with a stationary vehicle on the Isles of Scilly, according to police statements. The individual, described as a man in his 60s, was reported as missing around 02:20 GMT on Saturday, having departed from the sole hospital located on St Marys, the main island. Emergency services were alerted to the incident at approximately 04:30 GMT. The cyclist involved, subsequently identified as the missing patient, was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital. Supt Ben Asprey stated: “Our thoughts remain with the family of the deceased man, who are being supported by specialist officers.” Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed their intention to make a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) in the wake of the incident. The force also confirmed that the man’s next of kin have been notified.
