James Harris, an experienced Welsh fast-bowling all-rounder, who also chairs the Professional Cricketers’ Association, has committed to Glamorgan with a new two-year contract, extending his tenure until 2026. The 34-year-old Harris returned to the county in 2022, following a nine-year period playing for Middlesex. A native of Morriston, he made his first-class debut in 2007, achieving the distinction of being Glamorgan’s youngest bowler to secure a Championship wicket at the age of 16 years and 351 days. During 2024, he reached significant milestones, claiming his 600th first-class wicket and surpassing 5,000 career runs. Harris stated, “I’m very happy to extend my contract at Glamorgan, as a born and bred Welshman, there is nothing that makes me more proud than to wear the daffodil on my chest.” He represents the eighth player to sign a contract for the county since the conclusion of the 2024 campaign. The team is coached by Grant Bradburn and will continue to be captained by Sam Northeast and Kiran Carlson in 2025. Harris further commented, “I’m excited at the direction of travel and believe fully in the work that Grant, Sam and Kiran are leading; I’m looking forward to playing my part over the next couple of seasons.” As a seamer, Harris has represented both the England Under-19 and England Lions squads, and received an England call-up for an ODI series in New Zealand in 2012, before his transfer to Lord’s in 2013. Despite missing a portion of the previous season due to injury, he secured 32 County Championship wickets and maintained a batting average of 14.45 runs. Mark Wallace, Glamorgan’s director of cricket, remarked, “It’s fantastic that James will be staying with the club for the forseeable future.” Wallace added, “He’s a fantastic role model both on and off the field for us and one of the finest professionals in the game.” He concluded, “He passed 600 first-class wickets last season and we look forward to plenty more for the club in the coming years.”
