Approval has been granted for proposals to convert a terraced house in a South Yorkshire village into a specialized children’s care facility. The applicant indicated that the property, located on Elizabeth Street in Goldthorpe, will provide support for one child at a time, specifically those aged between eight and 18 with emotional and behavioural support needs. In its submission to Barnsley Council, Welcare Global Limited stated its aim to replicate a typical family setting, including daily transportation for young residents to and from school. The application further noted that young individuals moving into the home would undergo “stringent impact risk assessments” to ensure their successful integration within the community. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Welcare Global’s proposal detailed a shift-based system for carers. It was outlined that two carers would be present at the home during the day, with one carer staying overnight on a 48-hour rotation. Welcare Global’s application specified that the facility is intended not as a temporary housing solution, but rather as a “nurturing” environment for children.
