Additional efforts are scheduled to address flooding issues within a village in Lincolnshire. Lincolnshire County Council announced that enhancements aimed at alleviating strain on Long Bennington’s sewer infrastructure are set to commence on 6 January 2025. This drainage project represents a continuation of initiatives finalized in 2023. It involves the installation of new pipework and gullies along the western side of Main Road, specifically in the area situated between Chapel Street and Willow Court. Councillor Alexander Maughan stated that the council has allocated £205,000 with the aim to “protect the village from the devastating impacts of flooding that we saw back in 2015”. He expressed gratitude to the residents for their forbearance during the execution of the work, which is anticipated to span eight weeks. In an effort to minimize inconvenience, Main Road will continue to be accessible, managed by temporary traffic lights. Parking restrictions will be enforced on Main Road near the primary school, prompting parents to explore alternative arrangements for school drop-off and pick-up, Maughan further noted. Activities within the school grounds are planned to occur during the February half term break. Additionally, the footpath adjacent to the school will be inaccessible, requiring pedestrians to utilize the opposing side of the thoroughfare throughout the duration of the improvement works.
