The Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL) has announced the new fixture dates for two of the six Irish Premiership matches that were postponed on Saturday due to Storm Darragh. The game between Linfield and Dungannon Swifts has been rearranged to take place at Stangmore Park on Tuesday, 17 December. The match involving league leaders Linfield and Dungannon Swifts, which was cancelled just 70 minutes prior to its scheduled start, will now be played on Tuesday, 17 December. Additionally, Glenavon’s encounter against Crusaders, also postponed last Saturday due to the weather, is set for the same date, 17 December. Coleraine’s fixture against Cliftonville, initially planned for 12 October, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, 4 February. The dates for the remaining postponed matches from last weekend—Cliftonville v Carrick Rangers, Coleraine v Portadown, Glentoran v Ballymena United, and Loughgall v Larne—are still awaiting confirmation. NIFL faced criticism regarding the late decisions to postpone Saturday’s games, including pointed remarks from Communities Minister Gordon Lyons, who stated that clubs, players, and supporters had “been left in an appalling situation”. NIFL chief executive Gerard Lawlor subsequently issued an apology for the management of Saturday’s events, indicating that the league intends to review its protocol for responding to weather warnings to alleviate pressure on host clubs, referees, and stadium safety officers. Lawlor further stated that NIFL would explore options for compensating supporters who incurred financial losses due to the delayed postponements.
