An 18-year-old male sustained serious injuries after being shot in the leg in Londonderry. According to police, the incident occurred in the Springtown Road area of the city shortly after 22:10 GMT on Wednesday night. The individual informed law enforcement that he was en route to meet a friend in Creggan when he was pursued by several individuals and subsequently assaulted. Authorities characterized the event as a “deplorable act of violence” and urged anyone possessing relevant information to contact them. Colum Eastwood, the SDLP MP for Foyle, also labeled it “a brutal attack”. He further stated, “The people behind this brutal and totally brazen attack clearly didn’t care about the safety of anyone in the area.” He continued, “There’s no place for this in the city and no one wants it. These people need to give up and go away.” He also advised that anyone with information should provide it to the police. Sinn Féin councillor Emma McGinley similarly referred to the shooting as a “brutal attack”, noting that it has caused shock within the local community. She affirmed, “There can be no justification for such violence and there can be no place for guns on our streets.”
