Plymouth Argyle captain Joe Edwards is anticipated to be unavailable for the remainder of the year following a hamstring injury. He was observed holding his right hamstring as he exited the field on Saturday during the match against Preston North End. The 34-year-old player departed the game early in the second half of Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Preston North End. Edwards, recognized as one of Argyle’s longest-serving players, had featured in the starting lineup for 10 of Plymouth’s most recent 11 matches. The full-back was instrumental last season, scoring the vital goal in a final-day 1-0 victory over Hull City that secured Argyle’s place in the Championship. He was also a member of the squad that clinched the League One title in 2023. Just last month, he committed to a new contract, extending his tenure at Home Park until the summer of 2026. Argyle manager Wayne Rooney commented to BBC Radio Devon, stating: “We’re going through a period where we’re picking up injuries.” He added, “When you get injuries it’s a good opportunity for other players to come in and try and stamp their claim to stay in the team.” Since joining Plymouth as a free agent in June 2019 after his departure from Walsall, Edwards has accumulated 24 goals across 235 appearances. He contributed to Argyle’s promotion from League Two during his inaugural season with the club.
