Derby County head coach Paul Warne has conveyed his frustration regarding midfielder David Ozoh’s injury-related absence, particularly as his team prepares for a match against Burnley on Tuesday. Ozoh, aged 19, who previously made nine Premier League appearances for Crystal Palace last season, arrived at the Rams this summer on a season-long loan. However, he has been sidelined for the past 14 league fixtures, having sustained a hamstring injury three months ago during the 1-0 victory against Cardiff City. Given that the upcoming Tuesday match is too soon for Ozoh’s return to first-team play, Warne openly expressed his disappointment concerning the midfielder’s ongoing unavailability. The 51-year-old coach informed BBC Radio Derby, stating, “A couple of weeks ago, it felt like we were getting close, but he just isn’t comfortable with where he’s at.” He further added, “He isn’t as close to the team as I was led to believe a couple of weeks ago – we’re just a bit further behind the curve which is disappointing.” Ozoh had made a significant impact for the Rams early in the season, playing a crucial role in the squad that secured three victories in their initial five Championship matches. Since his injury, Derby has managed only two wins in their subsequent 14 games without the 19-year-old. Despite facing pressure, Warne remains firm that Ozoh will not be hurried back into the team until his full fitness is assured. “If he’s exposed to high speed, he just doesn’t feel right so we have to manage it carefully,” Warne explained. He emphasized the importance of a complete recovery, stating, “Everyone is trying so hard to get him back but we’ve got to get him back right – there’s no point in him playing 60 minutes and dropping out and I don’t see him for three months.” Warne concluded, “It’s frustrating for everybody.” Post navigation Russell Martin Highlights Positive Aspects Amidst Defeat The Maresca Project at Chelsea: Progress Report
