Police have verified that the child who died after being struck by a falling tree branch in Surrey was a 12-year-old girl. Emergency services were dispatched to Grove Place, Banstead, shortly after 16:00 GMT on Saturday. Officers from the Metropolitan Police attended the scene alongside the London Fire Brigade (LFB) and the London Ambulance Service. The force confirmed on Monday that the 12-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries at the site of the incident. No additional details regarding the girl’s identity have been released. Police stated that a report would be prepared for the coroner in due course. A spokesperson for the Met Police commented: “Sadly, the girl died from her injuries. Officers are in the process of ensuring that all family members have been informed.“The incident is not believed to be suspicious, however enquiries continue to establish the circumstances.” Pat Goulbourne, Assistant Commissioner at the LFB, affirmed that the fire service made every effort to save the girl’s life.
