Burnley manager Scott Parker attributed the anxious mood at Turf Moor during his side’s goalless Championship draw against Derby County to poor decision-making. This season, Parker has guided his team to 10 victories in 20 Championship matches. The Clarets experienced a frustrating setback in their automatic promotion aspirations, as they failed to penetrate the Rams’ defense in a game that lacked attacking quality. Despite the outcome, Parker’s squad remains third in the league standings, boasting an unbeaten run of seven games and trailing leaders Leeds United by only two points. Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire, Parker commented, “I felt it in the stadium – I’m sure the players did as well. I’m really conscious of that and I’m trying to explain to them about their emotional state.” He further explained, “We’ve come here as a group, and the fans included, expecting and wanting to win the game. We endeavoured to try and do that but we fell short.” Parker continued, stating, “The back end [of the match] the anxiety of what it was was players making poor decisions out of pure desperation, nothing other than a desperate bunch of men trying their hardest but falling short because of the decisions they were making.” Although Burnley narrowly missed securing a victory, they are still pursuing a top-two position and an immediate return to the Premier League as the season approaches its midway point. However, Parker mentioned his players were upset they could not clinch all three points against Derby. He added, “The hardest part of the game in certain moments is looking for a bit of quality and brilliance that unlocks the door for you.” “At times we’ve fallen short and that’s my responsibility as a coach to help this group and ensure we’re better,” he affirmed. Parker concluded by saying, “Like always, we’ll be relentless in the pursuit of that and so will the lads. They are absolutely devastated in that sense.”
