Former Wales international striker Iwan Roberts suggests that Cardiff City’s home match against Preston North End tonight presents a “great opportunity” for the team to end their current winless streak. The Bluebirds have not secured a victory since their 2-1 win over Norwich City on 2 November, a period that has seen them record two draws and three defeats. Speaking on BBC Radio Wales Breakfast, Roberts indicated his belief that Omer Riza’s squad might have concluded their period without a win during their game against Coventry City last weekend. Roberts stated, “All of a sudden, they’ve lost their last two at home to Blackburn and to QPR, but Preston are in a horrendous run.” He further observed, “Cardiff are the joint lowest scorers in the Championship, Preston the joint second lowest scorers in the Championship.” Roberts then added, “I’m not expecting a feast of goals, that has to be said, but Cardiff were unlucky at Coventry. I thought that was a game they could have won.” Preston has not secured a victory in their previous nine league fixtures, although seven of these matches concluded in a draw. According to Roberts, the players of Cardiff will be eager to secure a first win for Riza, who was appointed manager until the conclusion of the current season. Roberts further remarked, “Preston haven’t won away from home this season, but they have drawn five of their nine away games.” He concluded by stating, “So I think it will be tight. I think it will be close, but I think unlike his first game as caretaker manager, when they went up to Hull and lost 4-1, I’ve got a feeling that the Cardiff players will be determined to go out and put in a performance and get the first three points for Omer Riza as full-time head coach at Cardiff City.”
