London Stansted Airport announced it achieved its highest-ever daily passenger count, with over 107,000 individuals passing through its terminal on October 27. This new daily benchmark surpassed the previous record of 104,000, established on August 23, marking the fourth time the airport’s daily record has been broken in 2024. Robust demand for family holidays and short breaks, particularly during the half-term period, also contributed to Stansted Airport recording its busiest October to date. Popular destinations included Turkey, the Canaries, Spain, and Portugal, while the volume of passengers arriving at Stansted also reached new peaks. In October, more than 2.6 million passengers utilized the airport. Of these, 99% cleared security within 15 minutes or less, with an average queue time of two minutes during the main departure peaks. Gareth Powell, London Stansted’s managing director, described the achievement as “an incredible achievement” and indicated that the airport’s investment program would provide future benefits for passengers. He further stated, “The five-year programme will secure links to even more global destinations, helping transform the airport journey.” Last month, it was revealed that an investment exceeding £2bn would be allocated for the expansion of two distinct transport gateways in Essex. DP World, the owner of P&O Ferries, announced its highly anticipated £1bn initiative to establish London Gateway as “Britain’s largest container port.” Concurrently, the Department for Transport (DfT) confirmed that £1.1bn is earmarked for an expansion project at London Stansted Airport.
