A memorial gathering is scheduled to take place in Bradford for families who have been affected by the loss of a baby or child. Organized by Bradford Teaching Hospitals, the event is designed to offer attendees a serene environment to “remember and reflect.” Consistent with previous years, the event will center around a children’s story that addresses bereavement, with “Badger’s Parting Gifts” chosen for this year’s reading. The “Shared Memories” event is set to occur at Bradford Royal Infirmary’s Listening for Life Centre, commencing at 11:00 GMT on 30 November. Reverend Stephen Lees from the hospital trust stated: “We know that the journey of grief can be slow and painful, and that the experience of loss can be wide – from early miscarriage to the death of a baby or a child. “But it can be helpful and supportive to gather and to remember with others who have shared a similar heartache.”” The 45-minute service will feature activities including a story reading, the creation of tokens, listening to music, and opportunities for conversation with others impacted by loss. Refreshments will also be provided, with funding from Bradford Hospitals Charity. The trust reported that parents who attended previous events found them “very touching and thoughtful.” It further indicated that the chance to be among other parents undergoing a similar experience was considered “really important.” Invitations have been extended to families who have lost children or babies within the past two years, but the trust confirmed that anyone who believes they would benefit is also welcome to attend.
