Unionized employees working on the Elizabeth line are scheduled to initiate a strike on New Year’s Eve due to an ongoing pay dispute. The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has stated that its control room staff will undertake this industrial action for 24 hours, beginning at 21:00 GMT. The RMT further communicated that its members rejected Transport for London’s (TfL) wage proposal and are seeking enhancements to holiday entitlement along with a reduction in working hours. TfL commented that if the strike proceeds, Elizabeth line services would still be operational, but passengers might experience increased crowding. Additionally, the union reported that RMT members would decline to work rest days or overtime shifts from 5 December through 18 December. Mick Lynch, the union’s general secretary, stated: “Our members play a vital role in running the Elizabeth line and their demands for fair treatment on working hours and leave remain unmet.”The current offer falls short, and our members are determined to secure a fair deal.” A spokesperson for TfL remarked: “We encourage the RMT and MTR (the company operating the Elizabeth line) to find a solution to this dispute.” Earlier in the current month, planned strikes by RMT personnel on the London Underground were called off after pay negotiations between the union and TfL. Workers had been prepared to take action on several dates in November, but a union representative announced that they had received “a significantly improved offer.” Subsequently, TfL indicated its belief that its offer was “fair, affordable, good for our colleagues and good news for London.” Post navigation Entrepreneur Expands Takeaway Business Operating from School Kitchens Milton Keynes Market Closed Indefinitely After Fire
