After a decade of competition, the Women’s Big Bash League has announced its first-ever team of the decade. All-rounder Ellyse Perry was appointed captain of the squad. She is the sole player to have captained her team, the Sydney Sixers, in every one of the 10 WBBL seasons. Perry also secured two competition victories. The opening batting positions are filled by Beth Mooney, the all-time leading run-scorer, and Australia’s wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy. Sophie Devine and Grace Harris complete the top six batters. Jess Jonassen, who has spent her entire WBBL career with the Brisbane Heat, occupies the seventh spot. The bowling attack comprises South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Sarah Aley, and Megan Schutt. Molly Strano was designated as the 12th player. The selection process for the team involved both an expert panel and public voting. Matthew Mott, previously the England men’s white-ball coach, served on the expert panel. Clea Smith, who is a Cricket Australia director and chairs the WBBL team of the decade selection panel, stated, “The WBBL team of the decade brings together the best of the best and the panel is proud to have overseen the process to select such a deserving team.” The complete WBBL team of the decade is as follows: 1. Beth Mooney (Brisbane Heat, Perth Scorchers) 2. Alyssa Healy (Wicketkeeper – Sydney Sixers) 3. Meg Lanning (Melbourne Stars, Perth Scorchers) 4. Ellyse Perry (Captain – Sydney Sixers) 5.
