Borussia Dortmund legend Roman Weidenfeller states that England captain Harry Kane “guarantees goals” for Bayern Munich. Kane has already scored 64 goals in 63 games since his transfer to the club. Bayern is scheduled to play Dortmund in Der Klassiker this Saturday at 17:30 GMT. This season, Kane has already netted 14 goals in 11 matches. This brings his total for Bayern to 64 goals in 63 games since his arrival, a tally that includes a hat-trick against Dortmund in November 2023. Bayern will travel to the Westfalenstadion as the Bundesliga leaders, holding a 10-point advantage over their opponents. When questioned by BBC Sport about the distinction between Bayern and Dortmund, Weidenfeller commented: “One of the most important things about Bayern is Kane’s performances -14 goals is simply amazing. “He’s a great player and guarantees goals for Bayern.”” Despite his prolific scoring record, the 31-year-old Kane has not yet secured a trophy in his professional career. During his inaugural season with Bayern, the club finished second in the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen, was eliminated from the German Cup by third division team Saarbrucken, and exited the Champions League in the semi-finals after a defeat to eventual champions Real Madrid. Subsequently, Kane led England as captain to the European Championship final, where they were defeated by Spain. Weidenfeller, who played for Dortmund for 16 seasons and was a member of the Germany squad that triumphed in the 2014 World Cup, remarked: “It’s crazy about his lack of trophies,”. He added: “Maybe this season will finally be the chance for Harry Kane to win the Bundesliga.” In contrast to Kane’s prominent status as England captain, Jamie Gittens possesses a lesser-known public profile. However, the 20-year-old is establishing his reputation at Dortmund, emulating the paths of fellow countrymen Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham. Gittens, a former Manchester City youth player, debuted for Dortmund at 18 years old and has since become a consistent presence in the team. His recent goal against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League earlier this week marked his fourth in five league phase matches. When asked to draw comparisons between Gittens’ abilities and those of his predecessors, Weidenfeller stated: “All these guys have done a great job. They are fast, strong and talented. “With Gittens, it is all about his speed. We all got to watch Bellingham grow up and it was amazing to see. He acted like an experienced player right away. “Sancho was a great signing from Manchester City – mixing speed and technique. He was one of our great players. “People are similarly excited about Gittens. He is not the same player as Jadon, who was more central, but they have similar speed, talent and technique.””
