Burnley has named Chris Casper, previously Salford City’s director of football, as its new academy manager. Casper initially joined Salford City in 2017, coinciding with the club’s transition to professional status. His departure from the Ammies concludes an eight-year tenure, during which he was responsible for their academy and development system. The 49-year-old, a native of Burnley and son of club legend Frank Casper, was a member of Manchester United’s renowned ‘Class of ’92’ academy. Following his playing career, he went on to manage Bury. Furthermore, his 19-year-old son, goalkeeper Charlie, is currently part of Burnley’s player roster. Speaking to the Burnley website, Casper stated, “It’s a privilege to be here – it’s my hometown club, I grew up in the town and to be part of the club now is absolutely fantastic,” He further commented, “It’s maybe fate to follow in the footsteps of my dad and my son as well. It feels surreal to be here but it’s genuinely a dream come true.” The League Two club, Salford, reported that under Casper’s leadership, their youth setup facilitated the graduation of 46 players from their development system to make first-team appearances. Regarding his departure, he added, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working at Salford with some wonderful people – I would also like to thank the supporters who have been brilliant in my time at the club,” He concluded by saying, “In particular I would like to thank the owners for their support and their trust throughout my time here, and I am grateful to them to have allowed me this opportunity.” Post navigation Premier League Highlights and Match Recaps Available Ben Muncaster Commends Darcy Graham as a ‘Generational Talent’
