Royale Pagaille Secures Second Consecutive Betfair Chase Victory at Haydock

Royale Pagaille has achieved victory in the Betfair Chase for both 2023 and 2024. The horse secured its second consecutive win in the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park, overcoming Grey Dawning in a dramatic conclusion. With jockey Charlie Deutsch aboard, Royale Pagaille maintained the lead for the majority of the race. However, Grey Dawning, with Harry Skelton in the saddle, advanced to the front position following the penultimate fence. Nevertheless, Grey Dawning executed a poor jump at the final obstacle. Royale Pagaille, under the training of Venetia Williams, seized this opportunity, rallying to replicate its success from the previous year’s event. “For him to do it twice really sets it in stone – just incredible,” Deutsch told ITV Racing. “When Harry [Skelton] came to us I thought we were beat but I dug in to see how much we had left. He really tries hard.”He really had to dig deep. I think it was just genuine character that got him the race.” Royale Pagaille now stands alongside Kauto Star, Bristol De Mai, Cue Card, and Silviniaco Conti as a multiple victor of the Betfair Chase.
