A festive light show is scheduled to take place at the location where Mary Queen of Scots found refuge prior to her execution. Workington Hall, also referred to as Curwen Hall, situated in Workington, Cumbria, will serve as the setting for this complimentary family activity. Organized by Cumberland Council, the event will feature the illumination of the grounds with lights, projections, and fire displays. The Grade I listed hall, constructed around a 14th-century pele tower, served as the residence for the Curwen family, who were the Lords of the Manor of Workington, and is located within the premises of the Grade II listed Hall Park. In 1568, the Curwen family provided sanctuary to Mary Queen of Scots at this site, preceding her capture and subsequent execution. Although currently inaccessible to the public, the hall has undergone preservation efforts and has recently served as a venue for various events, including outdoor theatre productions. The Hall Park Light Works event is scheduled for 30 November and 1 December, running from 17:30 GMT to 20:30 on both days. For updates, follow BBC Cumbria on X, Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram.
