Luton Town midfielder Jordan Clark, who joined the club from Accrington Stanley in the summer of 2020, stated that the team needs to promptly address its deficiencies in away matches to stand a chance of salvaging their current campaign. The Hatters have accumulated only four points from 10 fixtures played away from Kenilworth Road, suffering defeat on seven occasions, most recently a 2-0 loss against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. This performance places them 19th in the Championship standings, five points clear of the relegation zone, yet 12 points behind their target of a top-six position. “I feel sorry for the fans travelling all these miles all the time and we’re not giving them any points or anything to cheer about,” Clark conveyed to BBC Three Counties Radio. “There are certain times in a game, I don’t know if we switch off and aren’t alert to their threat – obviously 2-0 down at half-time, it’s a mountain to climb. “Second half we were a lot better with the ball and played the majority of the game in their half. I didn’t think we worked their keeper enough as well and that’s disappointing… with the quality we’ve got it’s not good enough.” Clark has participated in over 150 matches for Luton, with 41 of those appearances contributing to their promotion to the Premier League two seasons prior. However, replicating such an achievement appears unlikely unless the team begins to secure more points in their away fixtures. “We know what we’re going to get at home, that’s the annoying thing – and that’s the worrying thing. We’ve got a decent home record but coming away from home, I don’t know what’s wrong,” the 31-year-old player commented. “We’ve got to look at ourselves as a squad and sort it quickly because with half the season to go, there’s a lot of points to get and obviously we don’t want to be down at the bottom, we want to be pushing up.” Luton’s upcoming fixture is on Friday at home against Derby County, followed by away matches against Bristol City and Swansea City in their two post-Christmas encounters. Furthermore, they will be missing midfielder Liam Walsh, who received his second red card of the season for a foul on Blackburn’s Yuki Ohashi. Walsh had previously been dismissed during a 2-2 home draw with Oxford United at the beginning of October. “Three games [suspended], then an injury, then missing three games again. It’s hard for him because he’s missing a lot of football and he can be such an important player because he’s got a lot of quality,” Clark further stated. “He’s not doing it on purpose but it’s something he’s got to brush up on because it can’t keep happening, we’re struggling for bodies as it is as well.”
