An individual has received a prison sentence exceeding two years for his involvement in assisting a friend to evade prosecution for a traffic violation. Atique Khan, aged 44, residing at Grantham Terrace in Bradford, was handed a 26-month custodial sentence at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday, December 5. Khan admitted guilt to a charge of conspiring to pervert the course of justice, stemming from an offence committed by his friend, Kashif Khan. Kashif Khan provided inaccurate information to law enforcement officials upon receiving a Notice of Intended Prosecution. This notice was issued after a vehicle registered in his name was recorded by a dashcam proceeding through a red traffic light on the A650 Keighley Road during the morning of July 25, 2021. The particulars furnished by Kashif Khan were subsequently discovered to have been previously employed by other individuals seeking to circumvent comparable prosecutions and were connected to Atique Khan. When questioned further about the offence, Kashif Khan asserted that he had taken the car to a garage in Halifax for necessary maintenance the preceding day and had not retrieved it until three days thereafter. The details he supplied for this garage indicated it did not exist at the specified address and was also found to be associated with Atique Khan. Both individuals were apprehended, and Kashif Khan’s mobile phone was confiscated. Analysis of the phone revealed that he and Atique Khan had communicated regarding methods to evade prosecution for the infraction. Kashif Khan, aged 30, of Durham Road, Bradford, was given an 18-month sentence, which was suspended for a period of two years. Following the sentencing, Rachel Wainwright, representing West Yorkshire Police’s Prosecutions and Casualty Prevention Unit, commented: “Perverting the cause of justice is a serious offence and I hope this outcome sends out a clear message that we will thoroughly investigate matters where people are suspected of interfering with legal processes.”
