An investigation into a single burglary in Sutton-in Craven, a North Yorkshire village, has brought to light numerous attempted break-ins. According to police, these additional incidents were discovered as officers collected evidence related to the initial break-in, which occurred overnight from Tuesday, December 10, to Wednesday, December 11. North Yorkshire Police stated that requests for residents to review their security footage led to the discovery of multiple attempted burglaries at other properties within the village. A spokesperson for the force added that officers have since visited approximately 100 homes in the vicinity to provide safety recommendations, and local residents have been encouraged to provide any relevant CCTV or doorbell camera footage. Police reported that during the initial break-in under investigation, the perpetrators took the homeowner’s car keys but were unsuccessful in stealing the vehicle itself. Sgt Neil Sisson said: “We’ve spoken to a large number of residents who are understandably concerned about the recent incidents in their community.”I’d like to reassure them we’re pursuing all lines of inquiry in this investigation and will continue to work closely with the community to ensure people feel and stay safe.” Listen to highlights from North Yorkshire on BBC Sounds, catch up with the latest episode of Look North or tell us a story you think we should be covering here.Copyright 2024 BBC.
